Skills Training & Employment Access

The WDEOP Project provides career pathways for individuals facing barriers to employment, helping them secure stable, high-paying jobs that lead to self-sufficiency and economic independence. Students receive support from the Center for Employment Training (CET), including financial help, personalized education plans, and access to resources through CET’s referral network.

This program combines hands-on training, education, and support services to prepare participants for long-term careers in sustainable industries.

Green Careers Training


Students can train for jobs in growing green industries, including:

Green Building Construction Skills

HVAC Technician and Green Technology

Electrician Classes

GRID Alternatives Training Programs

Installation Basics Training – Hands-on experience installing residential solar panels.

SolarCorps Fellows – Paid, 11-month entry-level experience supporting GRID programs.

Solar Futures – Solar education and skills training for youth ages 16–24.

Urban Conservation Corps (UCC) – Southern California Mountains Foundation

The UCC trains participants ages 18–26 in net-zero economy jobs, including urban forestry, sustainability, and conservation.
Participants receive:

Option to earn a high school diploma onsite through John Muir Charter School if needed

Q: What kinds of jobs can I train for?
A: Green jobs like solar installation basics. Through the Southern California Mountain Foundation residents can apply to become an Urban Conservation Corpsmember (UCC) and participate in the “On the job training” in industries such as urban forestry/greening, sustainability, and conservation.
Q: Do I need experience?
A: No prior experience is needed. Training is open to all residents.
Q: Do I need a high school diploma?
A: No, in fact, Corpsmembers that don’t possess a high school diploma will be given the opportunity
to earn their diploma with the John Muir Charter School, onsite at the UCC Coachella Valley site.
