Solar Installation and Energy Efficiency

GRID Alternatives, a nonprofit dedicated to making renewable energy and job training accessible, is bringing free rooftop solar panels to 75 low-income households in the Coachella Prospera project area.

This initiative combines energy savings, workforce development, and youth education to create a greener, more sustainable future for Coachella Prospera residents.

Eligibility:


Must own and live in your home

Household income at or below program limits

Home must be located in the TCC Coachella area

Must have homeowner’s insurance


What you receive:


No-cost solar installation

Savings up to 90% on utility bills

Roof repair funds for qualifying homes

Electric panel upgrades included


Job Training & Youth Programs:

Train 40 participants through paid Installation Basics Training, gaining direct solar installation experience with GRID

Hire 3 SolarCorps Fellows for an 11-month paid, entry-level experience supporting GRID programs

Serve 50 Solar Futures students with solar education and skills training for youth ages 16–24

Q: Who is eligible to receive solar panels?
A: Up to 75 single family, low-income homeowners in the project area may qualify.
Q: What do the upgrades include?
A: The upgrades include new solar panels, and in some cases electrical main service panel upgrades, and possibly even electric vehicle charging infrastructure along with cool roofing repair. Roofing materials will have high solar reflectance and thermal emittance properties.
Q: How do I apply for the program?
A: GRID Alternatives will host enrollment events and accept applications online.
